![]() ![]() When you install the license server on a 2008 (not R2) you will get a warning about it not being on a domain controller (see attached image). You can install a Windows 2008 terminal service license server on a member server either a 2008 or a 2008R2. Terminal Services License Services must be installed on a Windows 2000 domain controller if you are running a Windows 2000 domain. Citrix forms a key part of our business at present. Hopefully there is a way to avoid either of these, but I have yet to find it! Any advice would be greatly appreciated before our network grinds to a halt! I assume we have some sort of a grace period at the moment which is allowing us to continue. I now understand that Terminal Services Licensing must run on a domain controller and the removal of DC functionality on this server has caused the problems.ĭoes anyone know how we can get past this? Can we move our Windows 2000 TS CALs onto our new Windows 2003 Domain Controller? If not I can only see two options a) purchase (very expensive) replacement 2003 TS CALs, or b) go back to our Windows 2000 domain with the potential loss of data. ![]() ![]() Also, on the ex-domain controller that is running the terminal server licensing, we now have the following events in the event log:Įvent ID 29: Terminal Services Licensing can only be run on Domain Controllers or Server in a Workgroup,Įvent ID 7024: The Terminal Services Licensing service terminated with service-specific error 29. ![]() Since we did this, everything seems to have been fine, but recently we have found some thin clients on our site which are failing to connect to a Citrix session. Our future plan is to then upgrade to 2008 R2 once everything is stable. As part of the migration to the new infrastructure, we have introduced a couple of Windows 2003 servers and upgraded our domain to a 2003 functional level. We have been using a Windows 2000 domain with Windows 2000 Terminal Services for Citrix sessions and have recently installed a new VMware vSphere 5 network infrastructure. I was wondering if anyone could offer any advice on an issue we have come up against. ![]()
